It is Time to Lay Charges Against Isaias Afewerki

It is time for Eritreans residing outside, especially those trained in the law, to start putting together charges against Isaias Afewerki for crimes such as conspiracy, murder, and treason. Enough evidences have been gathered to go forward and lay charges. Thus, a committee should be formed to oversee this task. It should be made up of Eritreans only. There should be no involvement of outsiders, except may be for technical help.

Here are a few of the crimes:

1.      The illegal killings of the so-called “Menka’e” and other groups during the struggle.

2.      Mal-treatment and killings of fighters in “Halewa Sewra”.

3.      The summary execution of disabled fighters in Mai Habar.

4.      The illegal war with Ethiopia. His refusal to call meetings or consult with congress, the cabinet ministers, or the central committee.

5.      The extra-judicial imprisonment of fighters such as the G-15 and journalists, and the subsequent murders of many of them.

6.      The illegal imprisonment of religious groups.

7.      The refusal of food aid when it was needed.

8.      The criminal dumping of nuclear and other chemical waste from around the world in Dhalak, Sahel, the environs of Masawa, and other parts of Eritrea.

9.      The execution of about 160 rounded-up people in Adi Abeito.

10.  The execution of soldiers and civilians who were allegedly trying to cross into Ethiopia and Sudan.

11.  The execution of members of ethnic groups such as the Kunama.

The deaths of the following people – a few of the many who have died suspiciously at a very young age – should also be investigated:

1.      Ibrahim Afa and Abraham Tewolde.

2.      Yemane Ghebremichael (Barya) – most probably poisoned in one of the bars he frequented.

3.      Mohammed Saleh Mohammed Hagos – most probably murdered by Isaias’ henchmen.

4.      Dr. Reesom Haile – most probably poisoned during his frequent visits to Expo (Asmara).

5.      Ambassador Andemichael Kahsai – most probably murdered by Isaias’ henchmen.

6.      Abraham Afewerki – possibly murdered when some agents of the regime lured him to the sea and some others, who were waiting under the water, pulled him from the bottom.
