 Sweden: Eritrean Opposition hold Rally against Dictatorial Festival

 The Eritrean political and civil society organizations in Sweden conducted a huge whole day demonstration on Saturday 9th August in front of the festival place under a theme, “ Popular Resistance against tyranny”

The rally has started at 10.00 in the morning and ended at six in the evening. It was a whole day demonstration. Demonstrators flocked to the place with their flags waving and chanting slogans for freedom, human rights, democracy, peace, justice and the rule of law that are absent today in Eritrea. The rally program started by a short presentation by the coordinating committee on the daily activities of the demonstration. Demonstrators made a long line and started singing , Eritrea of Tomorrow”  loudly so that dictatorship festival celebrants attention was drawn to it and they began to listen the singing demonstrators. The music and slogan chanting has strong that the festival meetings were disturbed and could not run their false speeches on the situation in Eritrea.

The rally was both stationary and marching towards the gate and staying there for 20 minutes to attract by passers and distributing manifests and other letters. The rally was guarded by police the whole day. Speeches were delivered by individuals. The Eritrean Democratic Alliance was represented by its central committee members, Mr. Idris Osman and Idris Nour.

A support and encouraging letter from the Eritrean Democratic Alliance in Arabic language was read by Mr. Idris Mohammed Osman, later translated by Mr. Zein Shokay.

Ms Mehret Dawit head of the Eritrean Women’s Association for Integration has delivered a speech on human rights abuses in Eritrea. In her speech she urged the women participating in the Festival to stop their support to the dictator and stand on the side of the oppressed women in Eritrea.

Coordinators appreciated the demonstrators and lauded their struggle facing dictatorship realistically in Sweden.

The rally concluded its demo program by singing , Eritrea of Tomorrow” and a 2 minutes silence for the memory of the martyrs in Eritrea.
