The Eritrean opposition organizations have concluded today, for the first time, a collective meeting in Khartoum. The meeting was attended by the members of the Eritrean National Alliance (ENA) and by three other organizations from outside the umbrella of the ENA. These latter organizations were the ELF-Revolutionary Council, the Eritrean Popular Movement and the Eritrean Democratic party. The organizations have agreed, following serious discussions that lasted hours, upon holding an other comprehensive convention on Jan.12, 2005.Thus, other Political opposition organizations like the Eritrean Federal Democratic Party will take part at the upcoming meeting. Moreover, the organizations, which held today’s meeting, have agreed on some fundamental principles. These agreed upon principles will form the pivots for the upcoming dialogues. Thus, today’s meeting in Khartoum among these Political oppositions is deemed a major, qualitative, peculiar transformation toward unifying the attitude of the Eritrean opposition. Observers believe that an agreement to conduct an other convention is an essential development for the promotion of the stance of the opposition and a beginning of strains and discomforts for the regime of Asmara. The regime of Asmara has been staking on the disruption of the opposition to survive on power. Thus, the atmosphere of détente, which has been overridden by responsible spirits, in today’s meeting led the leaders of the opposition to commence a dialogue among the opposition organizations to reach a minimum national programme, a joint vision for the Eritrean opposition, an agreement on the national principles and strategic visions for the relations of Eritrea with the regional and international countries. The leaders who attended the collective assembly included Mr. Herui Tedla Bairu, the Secretary General of the Eritrean National Alliance, Mohammed Abubkr, Ahmed Nasser, Hassan Suliman, Mohammed Tahir Shengeb, Hassan Khalefa, Hassan Ali Ased, Yassin Mohammed Abdella, Khaleel Amr, Jemal Humed from within the ENA and from outside the ENA Mesfun Hagos, Moahmmed Nur Ahmed of the Eritrean Democratic Part, Seyom Ogba-Micheal and Mengisteab of the Revolutionary Council, Adhanom Gebre Mariam of the Eritrean Popular Movement. The leaders have agreed at the end of their lengthy meeting to release a joint concluding statement which involves an agreement for holding an other meeting. Furthermore, Mr. Herui of the ENA, Mr. Mesfun of the EDP, Mr. Adhanom of the EPM and Mr. Seyom of the RC have signed an agreement.
