The primary objective of Togoruba.org is to make modest contribution to the struggle now in progress in Eritrea to remove the oppressive regime there. It further aspires to do what it can to play active role in the post regime transition process to build on the ruins of the present police state legitimate national institutions under a democratic system of government. As an outlet for information operating in the current condition of national crisis through which our country is passing, the site intends to become useful addition to the several Eritrean sister sites that have already established through selfless dedication well-earned reputation among Eritreans and outsiders. It is stating the obvious that the materials they have been producing or publishing over the past few years have indeed made significant contribution in enlightening the public on the repressions and violations the incumbent dictatorship has been committing for the past many years now.

Needlessly, the democratic system which the Eritrean people aspire and struggle to install through suffering and sacrifices would only be durable as long as it would be inclusive and functions as an embodiment of credible system in which supremacy of the rule of law duly enforced. This would be practically possible only when the rights, origins, beliefs and cultures of all who call Eritrea their homeland would be guaranteed by a consensually written and ratified constitution enshrining the basic law of the land whose authority would stem, both in essence and spirit, from mandatory principles codified in a national charter through dialogue at a national forum by the consensus of representatives of all stakeholders in the nation. The trust founded on that solid ground would offer incentive to the people to recognize their nation as one reconciled within itself and with its general neighborhood. This would create durable stable conditions for the society to co-exist and prosper in tranquility. Its collective material and spiritual advancement would be harmonized through unity by voluntary will of its components, which would render political pluralism in the bosom of diverse socio-religious-cultural milieu a blessing rather than a curse of perpetual mistrust.

Peace and stability founded on freely expressed will of the Eritrea people would certainly pave the way for the citizens to utilize their creative faculties to invest their energies in rational schemes within the framework of planned and judicious national programs streamlining the exploitation of the resources of their nation geared to fair share of the fruits of development. Citizens would enjoy the liberty to engage in productive efforts to improve and advance the quality of their lives, and the sum total of their individual endeavors would add up into solid base of balanced programs of economic development encompassing the country as a whole under the leadership of a democratically instituted administrations. This would be the fulfillment of dreams and aspiration inherent in a functioning democracy because it would lay down firm bedrock for social justice.

Needlessly, the centerpiece of a free society is a liberated individual. Respect for his/her rights and human dignity under the rule of law is paramount. A system that fails to guarantee and preserve those basic needs, and by extension his/her larger community, would be doomed for lack of rationale and legitimacy. This is the problem that lies at the root of the current dictatorship in our country.

But in a democracy the individual’s freedoms equally entails obligations. Rights would only be guaranteed when the rights of others are duly recognized and upheld in accordance to the law of the nation. Standing on this conviction, thus, Togoruba.org shall require its contributors to observe decency, and respect the views of others. Criticism is legitimate only as far as it is constructive in intent and purpose and remains within the limits of human decency refraining from violating rights and personal dignity of others.
